Should You Choose Weebly or Wix?
By Top 10 Staff
Are you torn between website builders? Is it impossible to decipher which builder is better for small businesses and which one is best for bloggers? Sometimes you might even narrow down your choices to a battle of just two, such as Wix versus Weebly. Still, signing on the dotted line will make you nervous if you haven’t done your research.
We took the two big boys of the free website builder world and put them head to head. Will the winner be Weebly or Wix? Both website builders have the same business model. If you’re asking yourself, “Is Weebly free?” or “Can I upgrade my Wix account?” the answer to both questions is: Yes. Each provider allows anyone to build a site for free and charges for advanced features. The question is which one should you use? As with everything, the answer is simple - it depends.
These are the golden boys of the free website building world. Boasting well over 45 million users they are the ones showing everyone else the way forward. Wix is well known for having beautiful templates for their customers to choose from when building their free sites. That number is growing all of the time. Wix is currently expanding heavily in terms of staff and creating new features.
There are rumored improvements on the way for their bloggers as well as regular website users. For the customer this can only be a good thing. It means a greater number of templates to choose from and a growing number of features to incorporate. Having said that, with Wix the template you choose for your site is the template you’re stuck with. There’s no going back.
In many ways Weebly is the polar opposite of Wix. Whereas Wix offers a range of stunning designs and easy to use drag and drop technology for content, Weebly offers users far greater freedom in terms of manipulating the code behind the scenes. This means that Weebly users are able to change between templates as soon as they find one they prefer.
It also means that Weebly users can go into the HTML/CSS of the site and manipulate the coding at the source to give them their preferred outcome. Of course, to alter coding you should be computer savvy.
The question “Wix or Weebly?” is reminiscent of another choice consumers make. In many ways the battle between these two giants is reminiscent of the competition between iOS and Android. Wix essentially hands an off-the-shelf product to their customers. What Weebly does is allow their customers to take their (less developed) product and add whatever they like to it.
The truth is that this isn’t so much of a competition as an appeal to a different slice of the market. If you prefer to add your own coding and take more of a DIY approach to the world of websites, then Weebly is your platform. If you want a beautiful, easier to use, but less flexible product, then it’s all about Wix!
